Learning is a creative process. For happy, successful people, this creative process continues throughout their lives. Learning Family plans to sponsor development of creative teaching methods and environments that involve, challenge and excite children of all ages and capacities, recognizing every child's individual learning patterns. In this way, we hope that creative, interested and self-motivated learners can develop the tools they need to keep learning, finding answers, and thereby be happy in their lives and positive contributors to their society.
The most influential learning environment for any child is that created in the home. This is where the attitudes toward learning, the motivation, support and rewards are the most profound. Learning Family encourages parents to take a very active role in their children's education, working together with the child to develop skills needed for learning and discerning. This is much more than simply delivering the child to a learning institution, making sure homework is done, etc. While Parent Teacher Organizations can be instrumental in developing continuity for the child between the parent and teacher, the ideal is achieved when parents and children learn together as teams, or "Learning Families," to study, research, and explore. Understanding a child's individual educational needs is difficult for anyone, but especially difficult when a child's learning abilities are far from the norm. For parents, they may not be exposed to a wide variety of children and capabilities in order to learn by example and comparison. Professional educators who are required to efficiently provide essential education to many students may have objectives that won't allow them to address the individual needs of each child.
The Learning Family Foundation plans to support research to increase understanding of the the learning patterns of children that fall outside normal parameters, particularly very gifted and learning disabled children, and to support and promote the development of resources that address the needs of these children.
Learning Family accepts all families with a desire to learn together, regardless of race, religion, culture, lifestyle, income or political affiliation. Learning Family is to be a place where the excitement of learning together can be fostered in a positive atmosphere, building tolerance for differences among the world's many people.
