Johnny Appleseed

Johny Appleseed (John Chapman) got his name from planting hundred of appleseeds. He was born between the late 1700s and the early 1800s.

When he grew up, settlers were moving east to Ohio. John's idea was to go west before they got there. He made clearings in the forest and planted aplpe seeds, then he wondered back and forth helping his trees grow. By the time settlers got there the trees had fruit.

No other tree was as important to the settlers. The apples could be eaten raw, they could be cooked and made into apple butter, applesauce, and apple pie. Whole apples could be kept all winter in the cellar.Vineger can be made from cider .I think Johny was an important person because the appleseeds that he planted were an important food to the settlers because of all the thing it could make.
