Ulysses S. Grant (1822-1885)

Life in the Army.

Ulyssus Simpson Grant enlisted in the U S Army as an officer, before the war. Because of drinking, he was forced to resign, but when the Civil war started, he got another chance to sign up. He eventually became a full general, the highest position in the army, the only one since George Washington, and held his position for four years during the Civil War. He won many battles like Vicksburg, but mot as many

The Surrender at Appomatox.

U S Grant was the eighteenth president of our country, but didn't do a very good job at it. He did, however, do a pretty good job at being a general. Grant was very polite to R E Lee, after Lee surendered at Appamatox, VA. Lee and Grant were very good sportsman. Lee came out appearing happy and as proud as he could, trying not to be a sore loser and trying to represent his men's proud feelings, as Grant came out sad and depressed, thinking how Lee and his men, and all people of America would feel after he beat such a great army, and after he stopped people with a cause that people belived in greatly.

After the War.

After winning the war, he made a mistake by running for president. He messed things up a lot in the presidency, mainly because he was a bad judge of politicians. The people did not like him that much, and were glad to see his second term end. He took a trip around the world and lost all of his money because of a bank collapse, which was NOT his fault.
