Kunta Kinte, Captured African

Kidnapped from his native land, Kunta Kinte was sold into a life a slavery. He was called Toby by his white owner, but he never forgot his honorable African heritage and passed it on to his children. In this touching artistic work in front of the visitor's center and across the street from the Ebenezer Baptist Church, Kunta Kinte is performing a Mandinka ceremony for his first-born, Kizzy. "Behold, the only thing greater than yourself."

One of Kunta Kinte's descendants, Alex Haley, wrote the epic book, "Roots", describing the life of this great African and the generations that have followed him.
