Mark Twain (1835-1910) Author

Clemens, Samuel Longhorne was born in Florida, MO on Nov. 30, 1835, around the time Hailey's Comet came around. The Clemens moved to Hannibal, MO where Sam spent his boyhood. He moved away from Hannibal when he was 17. Samuel married Olivia Langdon and had 4 children. He volunteered shortly in 1861 as a soldier in the Confederate cavalry. Two years later he started using the pen name Mark Twain. During his life he wrote many books about boyhood & his life. Sam predicted he would die when Hailey's Comet came around again in 1910. He was right.

Books such as The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn explained his boyhood life, using friends and relatives as subjects. Twain wrote other famous books such as The Jumping Frog of Calaveras County and The Innocets abroad. He also wrote humor books like The Mysterious Stranger. Mark Twain was very well known for his smart, optimistic quotes, and that's what I like about him! ;-)
