Henry Ford's vision for his American
history museum was an amazing undertaking. In his 81-acre village
are not only buildings, but stories, inventions and the spirit of
creative people that contributed to the unique place and lifestyle
we call American.
Many of the sites have been painstakingly reconstructed. Ford insisted
on excavating the original grounds, retrieving such treasures at Thomas
Edison's mortar and pestle bowl, once thrown out the window in frustration.
Ford even had train car loads of soil transported from the sites so
that visitors could walk on the actual ground these legendary figures
trod.
Included in the collection of historical structures are Edison's
Invention Factory, Henry Ford's birthplace, Noah Webster's house,
and the Wright Brothers' home and cycle shop. It's a great place for
hands-on history!
