Today
we went to the California State finals of the Odyssey of the Mind
competition held at UC Davis. This picture is from one of the groups
that made a balsa wood weight bearing structure. They had to
camouflage the structure as a part of a larger object. Then they had
to present a skit and tell a story that involved the structure. Each
team had to test their creation to see how much weight it could hold.
There were also competitions going on.
Amanda learned: I was so amazed because it held 300 pounds and I thought the story was wild.
Harrison learned: Later at night we made our own bridge structures out of straw and yarn. It held up a medium sized Calvin and Hobbes book between two tables.
It seemed like the kids must have worked very hard on their little structure. It looked like the kids had a lot of fun.
